Separating Advice Posts

Hi, MHers. A new announcement.

A few weeks ago, we added a second slot for advice posts because people were waiting a month or more for responses to their sometimes urgent questions. Since that time, more requests for input from our community have been coming in. So the turnaround time hasn’t really improved.

And advice and discussion posts seem to be pretty important to our community; the comment count is much higher on those posts. Now, maybe that’s because stories are less controversial, but with so many requests for input coming in and the willingness of you all to engage on these troubling issues, we think they deserve a better system.

So here’s what we’ve decided to do. From here on out, advice posts will get their own page. That way, we can post each one as soon as it has been approved. They will still show up on the home page with the story posts. But you can also find their page through the new link in the top bar or hamburger menu.

For those of you who are here just for the fun stuff, you’ll be happy to know that frees up a spot for a regular story each Monday! You can find the link to the Stories page in the menu. The last week or two of advice posts have been filtered out, and will continue to be from now forward. But we do hope you will consider adding your wisdom to the conversations on the Advice page, too.

Will advice have its own recent comments? Too bad recent comments can’t include all new comments since we last linked them. Will advice requests still be submitted as stories?

Comments don't seem to be separable. Looks like they have to stay jumbled unless we created a whole other website for advice.

Linked them? You may technologically over my head there? Do you mean you wish there was a way to show each person what comments have been made after the last comment they made on any given story? If so, I'm not aware of one.

Yes, the submission process is exactly the same as before; we just schedule and display them separately now.

Yes that is what I meant. Looking at recent comments I don’t know if I have already read them or even if some I have not yet read have fallen off the list. Are approved advice questions already scheduled going to be posted earlier then it says?

    • MarriageHeat says:

There is a good possibility that we will reschedule them, but with the move still going on, it may take a few more days before we get to it.

I don't know of a way to help with the comments read/not read issue. But I can put it onto the "to look into" list.

I just have to say that in all my years of relating to Christians around the world I have never encountered a community of believers who more generously communicated the love, grace, and wisdom of God as I've seen it here. The non judgmental attitudes of those who disagree with what is shared, the transparency of shared sexual enjoyment and sexual difficulties is amazing.

Our prayer is that the broader Evangelical community might come to the place of appreciation of the awesome beauty of sexual love and sharing the testimony of it with others. One person here lamented that it is sad that there is so much Church negativity in talking about sexual love in intimate gatherings of believers and Bible studies. I completely agree. I'd love to see that change.

Jesus clearly loves the topic of sex and approves of discussing it, as is seen in Proverbs 6 and Song of Solomon. The stories, insights and counsel given here will literally save marriages whereas legalism and condemnation tend to destroy them.

May this tribe continue to grow and touch millions more lives in the years to come. Thank you MH for creating this venue!
