To answer your question, many years ago, a female friend from church told me (in an unusually candid moment) that drinking a beer just before nursing does two things: 1) increases milk production [reason unknown], and 2) relaxes the muscles to enable the let-down reflex.
Another female friend told me that, as long as milk is in production, you will not dry up.
