Written or Watched?

I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t visual. I’d also be lying if I said that I didn’t or haven’t enjoyed certain forms of AVE. My final lie would be that I’m not a voyeur. (At least in theory.)

[A note from the editors: AVE stands for Audio-Visual Erotica, a term coined in previous discussions on Marriage Heat. Audio-visual erotica is similar in medium to pornography, but different in content. While pornography by definition displays immoral sexual content (coming from the Greek root word “porneia,” meaning “sexual immorality”), audio-visual erotica can refer to all video- or audio-based sexual content, moral or immoral, but especially refers to moral sexual activity, in contrast with pornography.]

Seeing things of an erotic nature is undeniably arousing, but so is written word.

It is often said that a movie based on a book is not as good as the book. I have to agree. Good writing gives more details, places the reader in the mind of the protagonist, and paints a delightful image that allows the reader to fully immerse himself or herself into the story.

For me, the same is true, and especially so with written erotica.

If I were forced to give up one or the other forever, I would have to bid farewell to AVE. Because as appealing as AVE is, it simply does not stimulate my mind in the same way as good writing.

What about you all? If you were forced to choose, which would it be and why?

Ooh, great question! That's a hard one. As a writer and reader, I find erotic stories to be an incredible source of arousal. Some hot romance novels definitely get me warmed up, and of course, writing my own stories is a way of getting my dreams and fantasies out of my brain and into concrete form. But I enjoy AVE too! Actually, since discovering Reddit threads like Gone Wild Audio, I think that audio ranks higher than video for me; I'm able to put myself in the situation and pretend I'm with my future husband. Still, watching tasteful videos of couples making love or just a single guy masturbating is quite the turn-on. I can't pick! You stumped me, KM! 😄

I enjoyed it when MH was doing audio, but I guess not enough people were listening to it, or not paying for that content. Sadly.

    • KingdomMan says:

I didn’t mean to stump you, but turnabout is fair play. I didn’t even consider audio when I wrote this.
But the pure, unadulterated sound of a woman having an orgasm is HIGHLY erotic.
I love seeing, hearing, and reading about a woman losing control.
So in this case, I think my discussion question was just inadequate 😉
As always, thanks for your response!

      LLL,

It intrigues me that some women enjoy watching a man masturbate, while others have strong negative reactions. I think that all women should enjoy it just as much as I enjoy watching a woman masturbate.

Of course, the BEST is when a married couple watch each other masturbate — as a warm-up to some good fucking.

Men are more visual than women. That’s science, and proven by every guy who looks at an adult magazine, yes I’m that old, or watches AVE. I’m very visual, and I struggle with going with the written erotica, vs visual. I don’t think it’s righteous to view unmarried people have sex, but there’s not a whole lot out there that is made by married couples.
I have severe PTSD, and one of my crutches is that I view AVE, it helps block out the visions I still carry in my mind. My wife has been gone for 13 years now, and I haven’t remarried, so even though I’m 68, I still have the cravings for affection that I can’t get. So I resort to AVE, regrettably.
I get the impression that you’re single too, so I hope you, like me, can use MH to experience committed married Christians erotica to ease the loneliness

    • KingdomMan says:

      Hi Sarge,
I’m not single, but I do live in a marriage where sex was removed from the table against my will. I have had many of the same struggles as you, and the harder I try to resist AVE, the more difficult it becomes.
Years upon years of unmet need continue to build up, and that is ultimately what drove me to writing.
My tastes and kinks have fully developed into something I’m comfortable with, and I write about them, but in reality they are left completely wanting.
I mostly leave AVE alone these days because it is extremely difficult to find content of truly married couples.
I don’t know if it’s fair to say that I am as lonely as you are, but to live as I do must be a close second.
I don’t have PTSD, but I’m sorry for your struggles and will continue to pray for you.
      I truly appreciate your response.

"Men are more visual than women. That’s science"

I would disagree. The "science" that proves that was based on studies limited to western culture. In more primitive and eastern cultures, women are equally visual as men. In fact, the bible seems to take that into account much more than men being visual.

In Exodus 20 the construction of the altar was to be on level with the ground so the priests were not above the people and their genitals being seen in an "upskirt" kind of way with the robes worn back then. And in Exodus 28, priests were to wear underclothing to avoid showing off their genitals. Who would be looking at male genitals? The women.

Much later, the prophet Ezekiel compared Israel and Judah to a woman who liked seeing HUGE genitals a bit too much:

      Ezekiel 23:20
She lusted after their paramours, whose flesh is like the flesh of donkeys and whose issue is like the issue of horses.

Flesh = penis size, which can be over 18 inches.
issue = amount of ejaculate, which can be more than a cup.

Audio erotica for me as well, GWA being a favorite of mine, as well as Eve's Garden and other individual performers. I of course am as visual as any male I suppose, although for me it's about creating my own fantasies more fully than a video can allow me to. I also just don't want to go down the road of watching porn so I'm very careful about just what I consume in the visual realm, sometimes I don't know when to stop, which is not really a problem when I keep it to audio-only. There are plenty of audios of women with beautiful voices masturbating, as well as written scenarios out there in which I can immerse myself; that's enough.

    • jandrspicingitup says:

I don't know GWA. It sounds like its on just Reddit? Eve's Garden is really good. I used to download ones that I liked a lot especially so I could have some solo time. I like to listen to I can visualize my wife in the scenarios. The only thing about Eve's Garden is she adds sometimes a third person so you have to be careful. There have been nights that my wife went to sleep early and so I would put myself to sleep listening to an Eve's Garden so that perhaps I would dream at night.

    • KingdomMan says:

Thank you for your response FM. I really haven’t considered pure audio much, but after you and LLL mentioned it, I was tempted.

  4. Sarge says:

KingdomMan, I so sorry about your predicament. Having someone who denies you the intimacy that should come with marriage isn’t fair.
My late wife suffered from a disease called lichen sclerosis, and it was in her genitals. Intercourse was extremely painful for her, as was my giving her oral sex because of even a little beard stubble. So mutual masturbation was our go to.
I pray for you as well.

  5. Fearless Lunk says:

I don’t consume erotica for casual enjoyment. It’s always to feed my sexual appetite… often to aide me in masturbation. So if I had to give up one forever, it would be written words. AVE is more successful in helping me get off. I’m glad we have BOTH!

    • KingdomMan says:

I think the reason you consume erotica is largely true for most of us. And I don’t have a problem with AVE per se, but it is extremely difficult to find good content.

  6. She Calls Me Mister says:

My experience with audio was terrible. It sounded like someone just licking their fingers, & calling it oral. It was trash. Not my thing to begin with, won't be going back.

If I were forced to give up one. (Lord willing I'm doing just that.) It would be AVE. Hands down. To me, there is just too much that works against us for it to be worth it. It is so hard to curate an experience where there is no guilt, no hiding, & no waste of time aspect to it. Too, much of it is at the hands of others. You put in a search, wives flashing in restaurants, & most, if not all, results are not in a restaurant, more than one person in the pic is totally naked, & no one is flashing anywhere. Most all the hits are some kind of sex scene you didn't ask for.

I am always concerned of how I could cause a brother to fall away, or sin. I honestly believe looking at sex & nudity is not a sin, in & of itself. Yet, Paul said if eating meat causes a weaker brother to sin, he won't eat meat. The church is the weaker brother, & there is no explaining away the viewing of ave/porn. The withholding spouse is on the throne of the church. Short of gouging out our eye are they satisfied, all the while they demand their withholding of sex as right. We're all hypocrites, but at least some have it in us to examine ourselves. But, it is right & good to sacrifice, even what is good (Jesus was sinless & good) for the salvation of others. That's the point why we're here. So, that is what I'm trying to do, as we speak.

I am more ok with written ero. First off, God writes it in the pages of the Bible. Second, it employs the mind to connect dots, fill in the scene, & bring it into an experience that you can sink your teeth into.

  7. Watts2 says:

Interesting. Our word "pornography" actually comes from 2 Greek words: Pornas and Graphos.

While Pornia can mean any kind of illicit sex, Pornas refers to a class of female sex slaves in ancient Greece. Graphos refers to stuff that is written down, and while it can refer to sketches and artwork, it commonly meant the written word. So pornography is literally the writings of sex slaves.

It has been understood for over 2500 years that the written word can be VERY arousing.

  8. IsoHorny says:

Anything that reminds me of our sexy times together is good with me. I would say written is better than visual. Visual subjects the actors and many after them to exploitation, poor treatment, and an unholy lifestyle.

    • TurnedOn47 says:

      IsoHorny,

I deal with that by limiting myself to one account on one site.

It is a married couple that likes to be watched (her more than him). Every time that he calls her a "porn star", she mooooooaaaaaaannnns with pleasure. She has an orgasm whenever her husband says, "Guys are watching you and playing with their cocks."

She also TALKS during sex — more than most women. That really turns me on! (In one of her videos, she said something that I knew came from one of my messages to them. That blew my mind!!)
