God’s Spot
I recently saw a funny video where a husband was explaining to his wife the origin of the “G-spot”. The husband said, “So, God had just created man, and He was creating woman. He decides, ‘Okay, I’m going to put this one spot WAY deep in the vagina. And it’s going to take work to reach it. But when the guy reaches it, that’ll be My spot. The woman will yell My name because she’s going to enjoy it so much. I’ll call it the ‘God-spot’.” It was of course humorous, but I was thinking…it’s true! Is it something that God did on purpose to wire our bodies and brains this way? So that when we’re so overloaded with pleasure, an acknowledgment of His existence and creation is wrenched out of us? I mean, even atheists use God’s name, both in bed and out of it.
Now, it occurred to me that there is no exception to the command to not take God’s name in vain. Thinking about it, I feared that I had become lax since I had consider spicy language to be okay. And that includes saying ‘oh my God’ during sex or masturbation. However, the G-spot joke made me second-guess my worrying. Perhaps after all it is actually that we are praising God, whether we mean to or not. As Christians, we can mean it. We SHOULD mean it!
So, I decided I would try to purposefully make that exclamation (during self-pleasure times) a meaningful one. Even if I am out of my mind with pleasure, I don’t want to use God’s name lightly or crudely. I want to keep in my mind that I am voicing the name of my Creator and Savior. I shouldn’t be loose about that. Of course, He gave us this awesome gift of sexuality. It only makes sense we would yell His name in gratitude as we enjoy the sensations it brings.
Would you all share your thoughts on this topic?

Interesting topic, and I’ve had similar thoughts. “Oh God” or “Oh my God” seem to be a universal vocal response to the pleasure of sex.
So, as to your question: “ Is it something that God did on purpose to wire our bodies and brains this way? So that when we’re so overloaded with pleasure, an acknowledgment of His existence and creation is wrenched out of us?” I don’t think there’s any harm in believing He did.
LLL that is an interesting thought. I have thought that myself. The phrase “Oh God!” COULD very well be a way to mean “Praise the Lord!” IF it is not used lightly. I have written several novellas (I may never publish them) …& in at least one or two of them a lead character says “Oh God!” on their wedding night and I pointed out in the text that the character was praising Gid, not swearing.
So, did you hack into my computer? ; )
Actually I think it’s great that we both have had the same thought.
I've heard enough sermons reinterpreting the 3rd Commandment to question whether it was ever about an idle word but more about using Grace to one's own ends with false repentance. But following Jewish tradition we don't usually say or write God's *true* name but instead call Him "God." Israelites did this too. So I try not to overthink this too much besides choosing language in public that won't be offensive to others, not that I'm always successful…
Still, in the immortal words of Leonard Cohen:
It's funny though that I was watching a youtube video yesterday that labelled the man's prostate as the God-spot, what a coincidence! I still prefer to think of it as the P-spot, but to each his own.
Only you can determine how legalistic you are going to be.
I have my hands full trying to live by Jesus’ proclamation in Matthew 22:37-40
“ 37 And he said to him, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.
38 This is the great and first commandment.
39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
40 On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets."
